immigration debacle

OK, I've stayed out of this whole immigration reform thing till now, but I've finally gotten fed up enough with this ridiculousness that I have to comment. I am so sick of hearing people on the MSM complaining that some of the bills being put forward to reform the immigration laws would "criminalize undocumented workers". These people are here in violation of current immigration laws and therefore they are already criminals. I'm also sick of hearing people talk about the need for a "guest worker program". We have one. It's called getting a green card. What we need is not reform of the immigration laws, but enforcement of the laws as they currently stand and I think that the vast majority of Americans feel the same way. Our senators and representatives spend too much time debating what they think we want and what they think is best for us and far too little time actually representing us and listening to what we really want.

Getting a green card is a nightmare , so many forms and such to fill out .... especially if you're British.
The US Embassy has a phone line for queries, but at 60p /minute $1/min they can shove it where the sun don't shine.

You're morally right, but in practice illegal workers are needed to help economies. The way to stop illegal workers is to close down the people who employ them, but the focus is kept away from them and put onto the workers, who at the end of the day just want to earn a living. There's a reason for that and that is that industry unfortunately needs them but nobody has the balls to be honest about it.

Oh and for Dom, can British people get a Green card? I don't think it applies to British people, have you got any Irish in you?

Quite honestly while I agree with your negative viewpoint toward the whole debate (if one can call this crap lot of a situation, a debate), your statements dabble little in fact.

When you say we have a guest worker program and associate that with the green card program, they are two different things. In fact we do actually have a Guest Worker Program. It lets U.S. employers hire citizens of other countries for employment in the U.S. ONLY after they have met certain guidlines, guidlines that take some amount of doing to complete.

Also you mention our Senators and Reprasentatives debating...in fact they are actually working on comprehensive bull crap legislation that will basically make them look good for the election year.

Furthermore the law as it currently stands doesn't really stand anywhere. You see there is a law that says you have to have proper U.S. governemnt affiliated paperwork to be a citizen or thereof applicable person to reside in this country. However the constitution can be interpreted to state that 'laws made by the congress MUST be enforced by congress and there depedencies' (i.e. state governement and then local governements). So what you are seeing here is really one the first publicly noted times in history where a LAW, literally a law of the land, is not being upheld, and whilest not being repealed.

Well I kinda just thought of that now...time to post it in my blog :P

Getting residency in any country is tough. I can't even get a student visa for Costa Rica. But you know what, when my 90 days where up, we left the country for 3 days to stay legal. We remain inthe process for a more permanent status. The system stinks, but it's what we have and we are called to abide by the laws of the land.

My wife is Italian. I have dual citizenship. I went through all the stuff to be legally in Italy, my wife went through all the stuff to be here legally.

A guest worker program does exist. It is called an L1 visa.

My favorite point of those proposing amnesty is, "these are hard working law abiding people who just want a better life. If we require them the leave before being admitted on any type of program they will not."

For me that is a contradiction, either they are law abiding people or they are not. If they are they will leave, if they are not they won't and should be criminally prosecuted.

The idea that we cannot enforce the deportations is absurd. If 15 million Americans stopped paying taxes I can assure you 15 million Americans would get arrested.

This is about 1 thing. Cheap, maybe even slave, labor for large businesses so they can keep their margins up. That is all, nothing else. If a politicians votes for anything less than enforcing current law they support business over the needs of "we the people".
